A Quilty meeting in May

It was the same weekend as the biggest Quilt Fair on the Perth calendar, so it was not surprising that our get together was all abuzz with fabric talk and comparisons of special purchases. We were all enthusiastic and very busy.

The afternoon began with lots of chatter and socialising in the kitchen area. We all wanted to talk about the Quilt show. Lots of debating about what defines Modern Quilting and what we thought of the quilts on display at the fair. It’s good to chat and think about our art form and what we enjoy creating. It was fun to hear others’ thoughts on the subject of Modern Quilting.

We had some free time to sew or chat. Then it was onto the best part….the Show and Tell .
There were lots of great projects to see:

#A little zipper pouch made by Lori, in a workshop at the Fair.
#A computer/ ipad case made by Sheila.
#A gorgeous pink and neutrals baby quilt made by Karen.
#A huge quilt made by Beryl with help from Emmy, in neutral colours.
#Amazing New York Beauty blocks and paper piecing Stars made by Wendy.
#A paper pieced cushion top in Comma fabrics by Denise.
#I brought along a pieced top in a rainbow of scraps, along with a red Plus sign quilt I made, as part of a charity bee.
#Kate brought along a huge ‘monster’ (her words, not mine) of a finished top. Made up of squares sewn into crosses ( very on trend, you know ! ) that she is sewing for a friend. Sheila took it home with her to quilt on her long-arm machine.

I didn’t get photos of all the great sewing projects. My apologies to those who are not featured here.
Karen’s baby quilt has caused quite a stir and is quite the star of our face book page. Go and check it out!
See you all on the last Sunday of June. More info to follow about that, as soon as Laura returns from her holiday in Europe.
Happy sewing
