Free-Motion Quilt-a-long – Block 4 – Plaited filler and Giveaway!

This is the final block of row 1! Your challenge (should you choose to accept it) is to:

  • split up the rectangle however you’d like
  • practice a few different filler designs.

I went totally crazy and tried a plait but you can do boxes, ribbons, an hour glass… I just wouldn’t recommend you try the plait/braid stressed or sober …

Once you have split up the space, choose a few designs to fill the space with. You can use designs you’ve already tried, or try some new ones.

I’m going to show you how to do the Rainbow Hump’n’bump and a heart echo in my little video. You’l also see there’s a squared stipple in my block, which I haven’t shown. If you want some tips on how to do squared pointy designs, check out Leah Day’s Circuit board design.

Here’s my demo (if you listen carefully on the second slide, you can hear Kookaburras laughing in the background. I didn’t think it was that funny!).

Now, Laura has a FQS voucher giveaway going for the QAYGFMQAL on her blog, with an extra entry for Perth Modern Quilt Guild members. Just leave an EXTRA comment telling me you are a current financial member to be in the running. There are also extra entries for anyone uploading a photo of their blocks – you have until next Friday 15 August. That’s plenty of time to whip up a block!

Remember, if you need supplies, PMQG members get discount at Handcrafters House and Ocean Keys Sewing Centre, so you also have time to get out there and flash your membership card!
