Final feathers and prep for binding

And we’re going back to the very beginning…

Right at the start, we talked about breaking up our blocks. We’ve broken them up with ribbons, we’ve broken them up horizontally, and we’ve broken them up diagonally.

For your last feathers block, break it up. Go mad. Go crazy. Go for your life!

Trimming and preparing to join the blocks

Now it is time to trim those blocks back to 7.5″ square (if you used my original block measurements) and get ready to bind. Emmy is going to demonstrate three binding methods at our next Perth Modern Quilt Guild meeting.

  • Traditional method – all machined
  • Traditional method – with the back hand-sewn
  • Bias machine method
You’ll need binding fabric, ruler, board and rotary cutter. We’ll provide the cutting measurements at the meeting and on the blog afterwards.  If you want to try the binding method, a 3/4″ tip is recommended.
