Our July meeting was on last Sunday and what a meeting it was!
There were the usual happy faces…
…and it was great to see quite a few new ones too!
After everyone had arrived and settled into sewing it was time for Laura to launch the quilt as you go free motion quilt along (QAYGFMQAL). Bev kindly (and very speedily – boy that girl can work a sewing machine) demonstrated the first of the blocks for the quilt along:
Laura then demonstrated her style of FMQ:
Some people, like Janine, couldn’t wait to get started and Laura was on hand to help everyone.
There was a lot to take in during this first tutorial but never fear, Laura will be posting updates and tips here during the course of the quilt along, which will run until the end of the year, so that you can revisit some of the techniques and styles discussed and catch up on your blocks at home. I know that a lot of people, now that they have seen what the blocks look like and how they could work in a project are super excited about making a start and trying something new.
It was then time for show and tell. For the full gallery see our Facebook group page. Here are some highlights…
Kate and Gina showed their modern medallion quilts from the modern medallion quilt along they have just finished.
A quilt inspired by art! Spot the “50”.
A “don’t try washing this because you will need a new washing machine afterwards” denim quilt. Sage advice.
And a gorgeous IPad case:
It was also lovely that new members brought something along to show too! Show and tell really is a great way to introduce yourself to everyone…
Finally it was time to distribute the pile of Christmas in July presents. Everyone had been pretty good about not squeezing and shaking the gifts on the table…
But when they were distributed the room was filled with laughter, chatter and excitement. 🙂
Here are some of the happy participants showing off their lovely new gifts.
