This month it was my turn to choose a BOM project… so, I turned to the Modern Blocks book to peruse the choices. I have to say, there were some that I was *so* tempted to pick, until I read the instructions and discovered they involved foundation paper piecing. Having not attempted that particular skill, I skipped over those blocks and settled on Alleyways.
If you would like to make a block for the community quilt I will put them into, please could you use white solid for the central strips and one or two colourways for the improv coloured part.
The Alleyways block involves accuracy in the cutting of the white strips and they you can just relax whilst cutting the colourful strips – the pattern instructions stated between 1.5 – 2.5″, but I just cut mine on an angle. Once I had sewn the strips together, I trimmed each to the required size. I used a selection of pinks and purples for my fabrics, these looked really nice alongside the white strips. You’ll have to take my word for it though, as I have currently misplace my block pieces, which is why the step by step show and tell isn’t shown here. However, here are some beautiful examples which have already been created by the group:
