Another busy monthly meeting! We really do cover some ground every time we meet…
This month Serena dropped in early to say hello and show us the #hashtag (see what I did there?) quilt she is binding and which Karen R quilted. It is part of the charity quilt series currently being assembled by quilters in Australia and overseas under the guidance of Molli Sparkles for the victims and families of the Sydney siege. This one is a baby quilt.
Amongst the sewing today there was quite a lot of business to attend to. First up was the gadget show and tell. Members sang the praises of everything from adhesive dots that stop rulers moving to seam pressers to bias tape makers to rulers. The star of the show and tell was unarguably Dee’s Baby Lock Sashiko machine, which many of us have been dying to see in action. She kindly gave us a demo…
Unfortunately the price tag means most of us were left dreaming (one powerball…) However it was great to see how it worked and how it could be used.
Quilt show and tell was colourful as always. Some people proudly showed off their creations and rightly so:
Others hid behind theirs!
Karen S then addressed the group about the PMQG shopping list. She presented the list of items collated by the committee through discussion with members over a number of months. Everyone then voted on what to spend guild funds on. For those interested we will be looking to purchase:
2 cutting mats
A bias binding machine
templates and rulers to form a PMQG library
Lockable cupboards for storage
An Accuquilt Go cutter, bag and a variety of dies
More teaspoons!
There will be an email going out to members soon about the Accuquilt dies and which ones you would find most useful further to discussions today, before we make a final decision.
All equipment will be for use at monthly meetings and on retreats. It was decided that member name tags weren’t a priority and that a badge swap would be more fun. You have spoken, we will arrange!
The final “purchase” involved a lot more discussion and that was whether to join the Modern Quilt Guild. Karen S presented her findings from extensive research and discussion with guilds in Australia and overseas. Everyone present had a chance to have their say and then a vote was taken in which the vast majority agreed it was a step we wanted to take. So changes are afoot and PMQG will soon be an official MQG. If you were not present today but are interested in the details of the discussion or have any queries about what official guild memberships means to you as a member, please feel welcome to email or discuss it with us.
After all of this we were ready for some fun sewing and chatting time, (now free!) coffee and nibbles so we didn’t discuss the ugly fat quarter lucky dip challenge. Instead details of that will come out as an email soon. Dinner at the Como afterwards was very pleasant and proved to be an alternative dinner venue for the future. Although we also discovered a rather nice looking pizza shop on the way too…
